The Value of a Printed Image
I find it amusing that we rarely make albums anymore out of the photos that we take. In an era that has offered more options in album making (yes, someone is offering Swarovski covers for its albums), we choose to keep our photos in hard drives, flash drives, DVD’s, and memory cards. We show the memories that we take, using the most technologically advanced and expensive cameras in our I-phones, I pads, digital albums, or worse directly from the LCD screen of the camera itself. Wow, I almost forgot Facebook, where literally almost everyone floods it with whatever image they grab from their camera phones and DSLR’s.
When it became easier for us to take photos with these wonderful gadgets, on the other hand it became arduous for us to organize, edit and sort these photos to make an album as a keepsake. Have we considered the reality that one of these days, Facebook might just wither in cyberspace and that our DVD’s and other storage devices might decide not to work and deny us of the luxury of viewing our most treasured photos?
What is that again? What did I just say? Is there a chance that we may lose our MOST TREASURED PHOTOS? Is this at all possible?
Yes, this is so true and a reality that all of us, in the digital age must face. As a professional, I am forever looking for ways to back up the files that our clients paid us to provide them with great mementos of their events. While doing so, I am always fearful of the day that these images and video files might get lost, just because the external drive that we entrusted these valuable files, all half a million images (in a 2 terabyte external drive) stops working. Has this happened? Yes, it has. Do we have backups? Fortunately, the answer is yes. But what if both main storage device and back up cease to work? That will be a day I wish not to happen.
We take photos and videos, to preserve a moment that we experience, so that later on, we can go back and cherish them. A photo can bring back a lot of memories of an event that we have experienced, and it is something that our kids and grand kids can look back and treasure forever. Having an album of our most memorable photos ensures that these images are kept.
It is still an awesome idea to have the files saved in our different storage devices and heck, it would be great if you can keep them online as well. Just remember that it would be great if, at the very least you can have your favorite images printed, or yet made into an album.
The value that we put in a printed image reflects upon how we treasure our memories.
(The Special Events Department of Great Image puts a high value to the images and stories that we provide our clients. We offer our clients different layouts in packages that have 2 or 3 albums and we have packages where the smallest album that we give is in 8 x 8 size. Our videos are stories and records of your event; not a recount of everything that happened and that is why we offer to give you a shorter version of the day’s happenings for your edited video.)
